Automatic welcome and follow-up emails
Two emails that send themselves, a welcome email for new customers and a follow-up after delivery. What triggers each one, whether your existing customers get mailed, and how to turn one on.
Brainerce can send two emails without you pressing send:
- A welcome email for someone who just created a customer account.
- A post purchase follow-up for someone whose order was just delivered.
Both are marketing email, the same family as your campaigns, not the order emails your store sends automatically like a receipt. Set one up once and it keeps running on its own.
This is not the "welcome" email under Settings
Brainerce also has a single email named welcome under Settings → Email, sent once, the moment someone creates an account, and covered in Customize email templates. That one is a plain, one-time message you edit but cannot turn into a series.
The welcome email on this page is a different feature: up to three messages spread over about a week, and you can turn the whole thing off. If you were looking for the single email you already have under Settings, that is the other one. If you want a short series that follows up over days, keep reading.
Where to find it: Customers → Campaigns
Open Customers → Campaigns and look for Mail that sends itself. The welcome email and the post purchase follow-up both show up there, each with an on or off badge and a Settings button. Press Settings to write the messages, set their timing, and add a discount.
The two automatic emails
Welcome email. Starts the moment someone creates a customer account. Up to three messages over about a week. If the person places an order before all three have gone out, the rest are skipped: someone who already bought something does not need another nudge to buy.
Post purchase follow-up. Starts when an order is marked delivered. Up to two messages, for a "how's it going" check in and a nudge to come back.
Each message has its own on or off toggle, so a series of three can run as two, or one, if that is all you want to send.
Will turning this on email your existing customers?
No. Turning a series on only reaches people who join after that moment, meaning a new customer account for the welcome email, or an order delivered after that moment for the follow-up, plus whoever joined in roughly the last 24 hours. It does not reach back through your customer history. Switching the welcome email on for the first time will not mail everyone who has ever signed up with your store, only the people who sign up from here on.
Why won't the switch turn on?
The switch refuses to turn on until at least one message in that series has both a subject and a body written. An empty message has nothing to send, so Brainerce will not let you turn on a series that would go out blank. It says so when it refuses. Write the first message, then come back and flip the switch.
How the delay for each message is counted
Each message's delay is measured from the moment the person joins the series, a new account for the welcome email, a delivered order for the follow-up, and never from the message before it. A message set to send after seven days sends seven days after the person joined, no matter when the earlier messages went out or whether they were turned on at all.
Adding a discount code to a message
Any message can carry an optional discount, a percentage or a fixed amount off, with its own expiry. Leave it off a message and that message is just an email with no code attached.
Does someone ever get a series twice?
No. Once someone has gone through a series, they do not go through it again, whatever happens afterward: editing their profile, re-importing them from a CSV, none of it re-enters them. Each customer goes through the welcome email once and the post purchase follow-up once, ever.
If someone unsubscribes partway through
Brainerce checks whether someone can still be mailed before every single message, not only when they join. Someone who unsubscribes, or whose address bounces or gets reported as spam, after message one, never receives message two or three. You do not need to do anything: the series simply stops sending to that one person, and everyone else keeps going.
Every message has an unsubscribe link
These are marketing email, not a receipt, so every message carries the same one click unsubscribe your campaigns do. You cannot remove it, and a message cannot go out without it.
If your store runs out of credits partway through
If your store runs out of credits while a series is running, the whole series pauses for every customer in it, rather than quietly skipping just the one message that could not be sent. Nothing else goes out until credits are back, so nobody is left partway through with a gap they never notice. See AI credits for your balance and how to top up.
